Since Vajpayee has been many times brought forward in the context of Dr. Swamy, it is important to clear prevailing misconceptions about India's former PM. To get a 360-degree view, knowing the other side is also important.
While several myths surround Vajpayee, there is one myth that needs to be busted for the benefit of the common public.
MYTH: Vajpayee was a Sanghi
As Vajpayee was associated with Bhartiya Jan Sangh in its early days, many believed him to be a hardcore Sanghi. However, let me state that nothing could be farther from the truth.
Fact: Vajpayee was Nehru's implant
The fact is Vajpayee was a Hindi journalist who got associated with Jan Sangh. Later he built trust and developed proximity with SP Mookerjee.
Vajpayee was also affiliated with Communist student wing during his younger days. He was alleged to be a police informer in his early days against Freedom fighters during British rule.
On many occasions, Vajpayee double-crossed and betrayed Freedom fighters.
Vajpayee was very young when he became MP for the first time in 1957. During his first term as MP, Nehru introduced Vajpayee as a dynamic young politician. Nehru prophesized that Vajpayee will become PM one day. From day one, Vajpayee was a darling of paid media, which is only possible if he had the blessings of Nehru.
Vajpayee was a covert informer of Nehru and was deliberately implanted in Bhartiya Jan Sangh to derail the nationalistic agenda of SP Mookerjee. He often passed on sensitive information regarding Jan Sangh's plans to Nehru through invisible agents.
During the emergency, Vajpayee used to send messages to other leaders appealing them to apologize to Indira Gandhi. He wrote an apology letter to Indira Gandhi to come out on parole while other genuine activists suffered in jail. Such conduct is unbecoming of a leader who was perceived to be a Hindutva icon.
Vajpayee facilitated the split and fall of the Janta government by passing critical info to Indira Gandhi. In 1980, Vajpayee formed Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) & kept all his internal adversaries out of the party. He adopted Gandhian Socialism, which has no relation with right-wing capitalism. Vajpayee's idea of Gandhian Socialism was inspired by the leftist Congress.
Nationalists like SP Mookerjee parted ways with Nehru and formed Bhartiya Jan Sangh for the sake of the country. While Jan Sangh founders gave up their lives for nationalistic cause, Vajpayee never seriously pursued the matter of mysterious deaths of SP Mookerjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyay. In both cases, Vajpayee tried to hush up the matter which raises doubts over his sincerity towards Jan Sangh's ideology.
BJP has been in power for more than 12 years, yet none of the BJP leaders have seriously attempted to honour the sacrifice of Jan Sangh founders.
In this context, would it be wise to consider Vajpayee as a Hindutva leader? By doing so, aren't the Hindus committing to live in darkness while craving for light? One can have brilliant oratory skills but still lack the Hindutva aptitude that defines the character of an individual. Therefore, oratory can never be a substitute for strong-willed leaders who can make the right decisions during a crisis.
Vajpayee had a special fondness for beef and had no qualms about staying with a married woman despite proclaiming himself to be a Bachelor. Yet presenting Vajpayee as a Hindutva leader is an utter disgrace for a nation that basks in the glory of Hinduism. Such levels of hypocrisy can never be an acceptable norm for Sanatanis with strong cultural roots.
It is just like बाल मे से खाल निकालना ! If you want to search a person who can be called दुध का धुला हुआ , you can never get. Hence simple thing is that you have to see anybody from comparative angle. Otherwise you can never find a PM or a big leader/politician without any doubtful behaviour or with 100% clean image . A person who is a successful politician will definitely Be having these qualities :
ReplyDelete1. A big lier
1. Opportunistic
3. Diplomatic behaviour
Etc etc .
